Congratulations!

He popped the question on New Year’s Eve at the stroke of midnight! Or maybe he gave a heartwarming proposal in front of friends and family at Thanksgiving dinner. Or he got down on one knee amongst the lights and tinsel by the Christmas tree. Getting back to work after the first of the year is so hard with all the thoughts of dress designers, color palettes, and guest lists filling your mind. That resolution about losing 10 pounds isn’t so much for a regular summer bikini, anymore, but for a bikini on your HONEYMOON!

Now what?

Luckily, I’ve compiled a list of new year’s resolutions specifically for you, the bride-to-be. Maybe you’ve made these resolutions before, but they’ll take on special meaning now as you plan for your big day!

Resolution 5: Learn Something New!

The final new years resolution for the bride-to-be in 2013 is another very popular one. Many people take the new year and the promise of a clean slate to learn something that they’ve wanted to know for a long time. Learning a new language, learning how to cook, reading a how-to book on your favorite craft – these are all great new years resolutions… But you’ve got no time for Mandarin Chinese when you’re planning the day of your life!

Why not learn something that will help you on your big day? Besides, I don’t think you’ll have time to use your newfound skills in crocheting between songs at your reception. Here’s a list of some things that can expand your mind and help you have the most beautiful day of your life!

  • Learn to dance. Confession: I’ve been accused of having two left feet. If you’re like me and are a little bit *ahem “rhythmically challenged,” take this opportunity to take some dance lessons. Having a destination wedding in Cabo San Lucas? Take salsa lessons. Want to really wow your guests with your first dance? Learn to swing dance. What a surprise it would be if you started dancing the jitterbug when everyone thought you were going to slow dance to the love theme from Titanic!
  • Learn about food. One easy way: go cake tasting at as many bakeries as you can! Oh, and you’ll want to sample the wine that you’ll be serving at the reception, probably, as well. 😉
  • Take a poetry class and make your wedding vows a work of art!
  • Learn fashion. Brush up on the latest trends for 2013 with my list of bridal trends for colors, gowns, and more. Check out the post here: [link]

The most important thing you can learn, however, is to love. From one of my favorite movies, Moulin Rouge: “The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.”

And in these tough economic times, everyone is trying to cut corners and get the most bang for their buck.
